MDS Blog Hop--Project Life Fun!

Well, it took longer than I thought, plus the girlie came home to visit--I just needed to spend some time with her!  Anyway, I finally got my post done along with a video!  I hope you enjoy it--try out a few new techniques with MDS, you will definitely fall in love with it, it is a blast (and trying it out for free isn't too bad either!)  The first project I did using this technique, I actually uploaded my photos to Costco to print and use in my traditional Project Life by Stampin' Up! scrapbook, but I like that I can use it in all the different platforms! Yay!

If you have any questions about this technique, please leave a comment.  I love going back to my old non-digital photos and getting them all scanned so I can use them at times like these!! This will be the best way for me to get caught up on all of my scrapbooking!
Time to check out Julie L. and the rest of the bloggers...and a special welcome to Monika, we are glad to have her blogging with us this month!

I started my new job this week at Crate & Barrel--I love it!  It's a fun place to work, as well as fun people to work with. It's hard to believe the last time I had a non-volunteer job, I had a little 18 month old child!  Where'd the time go?

MDS Blog Hop--Homecoming 2013

It's time for October MDS Blog Hop's "what we're working on" project.  Many of you may have come from Jeanna B's blog--she always has such fun projects to share.  Just a couple weeks ago, my baby went to her last Homecoming dance of high school!  I can't believe she's a senior!! {sniff, sniff} She and her friends decided that since none of them got asked to the dance, they would go together (I wish I could've done that in HS!) Kylie and I went to the Fashion Show mall on Las Vegas Bvld (ugh!!) the week before and found a pretty dress and had a friend make a fun slip to make it just a bit longer and more pouffy (is that a word?) The day before  the dance she decided she wanted to get red Converse high tops!  For sure they were easier to dance in!!  When we went to take pictures before the dance, the sun was low and I couldn't find a spot where I wasn't getting glare or shadows...then I dropped my camera!  Yep, it's broken! Good thing for iPhones, right?  The girls went on to dinner at BJ's and then to the dance and had a blast, so much of a blast that she forgot to take any more pics (grrr!).  At least we have a few nice photos to share.

I recolored the burlap ribbon and the paper from the Number One kit.  This was a very simple page, but trying to find just the right background paper was very frustrating!  Anyone else have that problem? Good, I'm glad I'm not the only one! {wink} I love that you can recolor embellishments and background papers!  It opens up a whole world of possibilities for your digital crafting projects.  If you haven't tried MDS, make sure you download the 30 day free trial--there's nothing to lose.  Ok, before you hop on over to Julie Leblanc's blog, I have to congratulate our own Holly and Amber for being selected for Stampin' Up!'s new MDS Design Team!  Yay!  Can't wait to see what Stampin' Up! will have them share with us!  Check out what the rest of the blog hop girls are working on and leave comments, we all love them!

Pocket Pages--Disney

Last week at Mydigitalstudio.net the challenge was pocket pages.  I was intrigued, but didn't submit an entry.  This week, they have extended the challenge and I took that as a sign that I needed to try this fun way to scrapbook.  You may wonder, "what is a pocket page?" You will probably know them better as Project Life pages which were created by Becky Higgins (I have been a fan since her days at Creating Keepsakes magazine!!)  Basically, she has designed divided scrapbook page protectors with pockets for basic sized photos and then basic sized cards for journaling, embellishing or just as a filler.  I think it's pretty brilliant (plus so simple and quick), but I haven't really tried doing any yet.  I'm not very good at trying new things right away--I have to check things out first (sometimes for a long while!) Anyway, after last weeks MDS blog hop, I watched Erica's video on how she makes pocket cards with MDS and it really got me thinking.  I can set up my own pocket templates and save them on MDS!  I used the standard size 4 x 6 photo size and then halved that for my journaling/filler card and then as I moved them around and found the layout I liked, I selected "File" then "Save Page Photo Layout" and named each page (I think I used "Pocket Page 1,2,3, etc.")  So after having made several templates, I jumped in and made a page for the Mydigitalstudio.net challenge.  I am sooooooooo far behind on my scrapbooking so don't judge, these pics are from 2005!
The thing I like about these pocket pages is that most of it is just drag and drop!  I just added a few punches, stamps and embellishments along with my title and journaling and 'voila', all done! I did create my own Mickey paper in the top left corner, just by copying and pasting circle punches and then saving as a .jpg file. Now, I know some of you are saying, "Hey, what about the edges? Are those going to get cut off when I print it?" If you are getting this printed through Stampin' Up! you have to be very careful about the page bleed area that may be trimmed off during the printing process, but because I saved this as a .jpg file, I can take the whole page and size it to whatever I want! I can do 8 x 8, 12 x 12, or a 5 x 5.  I can add it to a 12 x 12 page and shrink it down to a size that fits inside the bleed area.  My local print shop says they can print within 1/8" of the edge, so I will take my chance on this and see how well it prints--I can always adjust my photo box sizes if needed.  Make sure you go to mydigitalstudio.net and "like" my page or you can always submit your own!!  Challenge ends tomorrow at noon Mountain time.  I think I'll be making a few more of these!!

Look at those Dimples!

My cousin and his family moved to Vegas about 6 years after we did and it was nice to have more family here in town.  They only had one little girl at the time, and since then have added 4 more darling children to their family--and I adore each one!  One day when we were attending the baby blessing of their youngest child, the next youngest, Sarah, age 2, seemed in need of a little attention!  I saw her sitting over in the corner by her grandma being shy and quiet but when I started talking to her, her eyes twinkled and as the huge smile formed on her face I noticed her dimples!  Not just regular dimples...deep, perfect dimples!  Every time this little girl smiles her dimples seem to sink all the way through her cheeks!   I got my camera out and started taking pictures and she just lit up!  She hammed it up for the camera for at least a few minutes before she got bored and wanted to play with all her cousins.  I got a few good photos, but this was the one with the twinkle in her beautiful eyes!  She is such a flirt--even now almost 4 years later!
I used Hip and Handsome overlay for the background; Twitterpated ribbon (recolored), two-toned ribbon (recolored), pom-pom trim (recolored), crochet trim, seam binding (recolored), baker's twine; Antique brads and staples.  My colors were matched with the color of the couch in the background (I love that option!!).  This was such a fun page to create!  That's it for my Artisan contest scrapbook entries, but come back tomorrow for the CREATE blog hop!  I'll post more Artisan contest entries soon!

Sweet Smile

I've been a scrapbooker for more than 20 years, so switching to digital scrapbooking was a little out of my comfort zone, to say the least!  I loved using MDS for cards and home decor, but scrapping with it was another story!  It sounds pretty funny now, but my mind just has a problem translating on a spatial level I think.  I'm feeling a little more comfortable now that I have jumped in with both feet, but it's still a work in progress!!  Anyway, here's another Artisan contest entry. This one is of my daughter and my niece.  I am not a great photographer, I don't even have a really good camera, but I caught this darling smile on my two week old niece's face--I will call it a smile no matter what anyone else says!!

I used Twitterpated DSP and filled the punch I created in MDS, I think I called it "trapezoid".  I also created the flower punch, filled it with Baja Breeze and then used the crop tool to crop the shape of the flower in the Naturals Composition overlay stamp. I used the freeform line tool to make my stitched heart and finally, I cropped a small section of stitching, recolored it and enlarged it.  Background was also Naturals Composition overlay cropped into plank sizes. Check out my YouTube videos on cropping stamps and editing punches. Try our 30-day free trial for MDS or purchase MDS for only $19.95!

I hope you are enjoying your summer!  Stay cool!

I Like to be with You!

I have to say that I am so excited for the new 2013-2014 Artisan Design Team for Stampin' Up!  They are all very talented ladies and I can't wait to see all the projects they come up with this year!  While I was disappointed for about 5 minutes when I found out I wasn't chosen for the top 20, I quickly realized that it was better that I spend time with my kids before they both leave home this next year--I can't believe I'll be an "empty nester" by this time next year!  I will share some of the projects that I worked on for several months to submit them for the Artisan Design Team contest.  The first scrapbook page I did was "I Like to be with You". It is a photo of my daughter and her best friend. (they've known each other since they were babies!) I love this photo because this is how these girls are all the time--happy and silly!  I used a few overlay stamps (Decorative and Naturals Composition) recolored seam binding, and scallop border filled with Love Letter DSP.

Make sure you download the free 30-day trial of MDS!  It is so easy to use and I love the results I get! (I also love that I can delete, undo and change colors with the click of my mouse!)  Once you download the software, be sure to check out my YouTube videos for tips and techniques.

Have a great weekend!

MDS Blog Hop--New Discovery

Welcome to this week's MDS Blog Hop!  The theme this week is basically whatever we are working on or something we've discovered using My Digital Studio 2.  So, I've done a little of both!

Background, Natural Composition overlay; Snowflakes, Old St. Nick stamp brush; "Merry", Simple Letters punch; Hip and Handsome overlays stamp cropped with washi tape punch shape; Jingle Bell, Jolly Bingo Bits stamp brush; Freeform line stitching.

I grabbed our photo from Christmas and as I was adding a few embellishments I thought I would try a few new things.  First, I used the punch editor and created my own washi tape shape.  That allowed me to choose a background stamp and then crop it using my washi tape punch.  Fun, eh?  Then, I saw a cute title on a scrapbook page that had stitching on it, and I thought that I could try to replicate the look with the freeform line tool--it worked!  I takes a little bit of time and some adjusting, but I like the end result.  I finished it off with a woven background and some snowflakes.  I hope you enjoy the rest of the blog hop!  Have fun!

Julie

Make sure you check out the video on how I created the faux washi tape and added the stitching on the letters!

My first MDS Blog Hop!

I'm so excited to have been asked to participate as a guest blogger with the talented ladies in the MDS Blog Hop!  I'm a new blogger, just since October, but I'm not new to being crafty!  I've been a Stampin' Up! demonstrator for more than 16 years and I love paper crafting, although my new passion is digital crafting!  I've always loved seeing cute sayings and quotes on Pinterest and I thought, "Hey, I can do that with My Digital Studio!"  Now, I'm kind of addicted!  I love making cards and printables with My Digital Studio, but I have to admit, I struggle with scrapbooking with it!  I love the way some designers (including our own talented MDS blog hop girls) can just put all sorts of paper, photos, embellishments, and textures together and make a darling layout--that is not the way my brain thinks!  I'm a CASE girl!  I love to see ideas from other designers and change them up to make them my own!  I did this on today's project!  I saw a cute page using the grouped photo technique, I changed it up a bit and added my photo and fun winter details and I came up with this:
I used the "Winter Wonderland" title from the new Let it Snow ensemble (recolored), the background paper is from Number One DSP,  the chevron paper is from the On the Go kit, and the snowflake is from the Old St. Nick stamp brush set. I added a few stitches around the edge.  I'm sure by now, you've seen all the lovely creations from all the creative ladies on this blog hop, it's always nice to leave a comment so they know how much you enjoy their projects!!

My Digital Studio 2 video--iphoto import

I know a few people have been wondering how to import your photos into My Digital Studio 2 from iphoto on a Mac, so I thought I'd do a quick video just to show how it's done.  It goes a bit fast, but I think you can see how to do it easily!  As always, if you have questions, please let me know, I will do my best to help!  Have a great weekend!

My Digital Studio 2 video--Freeform line dotted circle

It's been such a dark and cloudy day today, so I thought I should finish up a few videos that I had been working on!  In today's video I used the Freeform line feature to make a cute dotted circle for my scrapbook page.  Now, we do have a few dotted circle stamp brushes, but this feature gives you the option to make your "dots" any size or you could even use squares or hearts, whatever you happen to have in your font collection (can you see where I'm going with this?)  This is such a fun idea, I just had to share it with you! I apologize, I did skip through this pretty fast, so if you're a beginner, check out the designer series card video with a few basic steps.  If you have any other questions, please leave a comment and I will get back to you as quickly as I can.  Well, I see a break in the clouds, I better go get my mail before the next round of storms hit! (yay for the rain!!!) Enjoy the video!

Weekly MDS Challenge 9/15/12--scrapbook page

Aaaaaaahhhhhhh!  This was a hard challenge!  I haven't quite transitioned to scrapbooking with My Digital Studio! (I know, weird huh!)  I just feel like I'm committed or something, which is completely wrong!  I can change everything with a click of the "undo" button, but still, it is a struggle for me!  Oh well...on to the challenge!  This weeks challenge was a scrapbook page using 10 or more photos, so I'm really out of my comfort zone!  This is my final project, I keep wanting to go back and change it, but I'm drawing the line--NO MORE CHANGES!  This page is from my daughter's first date/formal with her BFF!  They were the only girls who could keep dancing all night with their cute Converse shoes (all the girls with heels were jealous!) Thanks for looking!
